Taj Bradley's Opening Day injury update devastated the Rays

The Tampa Bay Rays expect Taj Bradley to be a key starter in 2024. However, such intentions were halted on Opening Day.

According to Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times, Bradley's strained pectoral will keep him out of Opening Day.

The Rays will bench him for two weeks while they search camp for replacements.

Starting pitchers are leaving Tampa Bay due to Shane Baz's injury. Manager Kevin Cash, a bullpen game proponent, may use it every fifth day to start the season. Or, he may give another young guy in the organization a chance. Cash's choice won't be Bradley.

The right-hander struggled in his first 23 MLB games in 2023. Bradley had a fantastic 129/39 K/BB ratio, but a 5.59 ERA was disappointing.

Bradley, according to MLB Pipeline, was the team's third-best prospect in 2022. He was 24-21 with a 3.02 ERA with 382/115 K/BB in 83 minor league games. Despite his 2023 troubles, the Rays still like Bradley.

Unfortunately, Tampa Bay must wait to see him pitch again. The Rays must now find a short-term rotation replacement for Taj Bradley.

The team's biggest worry is the right missing more than his two-week shutdown. Tampa understands Bradley can boost its pitching options once healthy.
