Bob Marley: One Love Box Office To Pass Big Milestone, Is Now 6th Highest-Grossing Music Biopic

Bob Marley: One Love hits a big box office milestone as it rises the charts. Kingsley Ben-Adir plays the legendary reggae artist in the new film, which follows him at a critical time in his life and Jamaica's political history.

The film stars Lashana Lynch, James Norton, and Michael Gandolfini. The film opened at No. 1 in its debut weekend despite opposition from Madame Web, a Spider-Man-related superhero film.

Bob Marley: One Love is expected to gross $80 million domestically by Saturday, according to Variety.

It will be the first 2024 release and the second this year after Timothée Chalamet's holdover blockbuster Wonka.

One Love has also eclipsed Ray, the 2004 Oscar-winning Ray Charles biopic, as the sixth highest-grossing music biopic.

One Love by Bob Marley seems unstoppable on the chart. After debuting to $76 million, Dune: Part Two will surpass it as the highest-grossing domestic title of 2024, but the movie is doing well for a music biopic.

Ray earned $123.97 million, $62.82 million more than the next highest title. Variety estimates that the Bob Marley movie could gross $100 million domestically, but its overseas grosses must be high to outgross Walk the Line. Despite that, it will perform well.

Bob Marley: One Love would be unusual in the domestic box office if it reached $100 million. Only 24 movies reached that milestone in 2023. Only two of those movies were biopics: the blockbuster Oppenheimer and the contentious but profitable Sound of Freedom.
