A$57M contract: Michael Onwenu resigns with Patriots

One of the top free agent guards this summer was Michael Onwenu. Even though there were many interested teams, the Patriots kept their top offensive lineman.

Michael Onwenu's three-year, $57 million Patriots contract keeps the 26-year-old guard in Foxboro long-term.

It's affordable for the Patriots compared to other guard contracts.

With an annual average of approximately $19 million, Onwenu's deal guarantees $38 million.

After Philadelphia's long-term extension to Landon Dickerson, he becomes the league's fifth-highest-paid guard.

After three great seasons, Onwenu is locked in under the new Patriots administration post-Bill Belichick. The Patriots have few talented offensive players.

Finding players that want to stay in Foxboro is a huge win, whether DeVante Parker is getting released or the third-overall pick is a quarterback.

Paying Onwenu like a top guard is fine. His above-average 71.5 Pro Football Focus grade was better than Dickerson and among the best in football.
